Managed vs Ad Hoc (aka Unmanaged) Properties

Please note that “Managed Properties”, “Ad Hoc Properties” and “Unmanaged Properties” are NOT official UCD terms, but are terms that I use to label the concept described in this article. I use “Ad Hoc” and “Unmanaged” interchangeably.

Best practice: As a general rule, it is better to use Managed Properties versus Ad Hoc Properties. Note that there are exceptions, but any decision to use an Ad Hoc Property should be carefully considered.
